Update: Woman in custody after downtown stabbing

A 25-year-old woman is in police custody following a stabbing early Saturday evening in downtown Sudbury.

Greater Sudbury Police officers were called to the area of the Greater Sudbury Transit Centre at around 7:30 p.m. on July 9.*

When they arrived on Elm Street, police found a 23-year-old woman with stab wounds. She was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 25-year-old woman was arrested and is being held pending a bail hearing.

Police don’t believe the stabbing was random, but do believe it to be an isolated incident.

*An earlier version of this story stated the stabbing occurred near the Rainbow Centre. Greater Sudbury Police have since corrected the release they issued to indicate the stabbing happened near the transit centre.
