UPDATE - Police are in the process of asking the charity if its name can be released. The name of the suspect would identify the charity, so her name is also not yet being released.

A 54-year-old woman who was the treasurer of a Sudbury charity until recently has been charged with fraud after she allegedly siphoned off $20,000 raised through various events for her own use.

The thefts took place between July 2007 and February 2009, when she was relieved of her duties. At the request of Greater Sudbury Police, the woman visited police headquarters, where she told police how she committed the fraud.

She was released on a promise to attend court.
