On Friday, Feb. 15 Greater Sudbury Police responded to a 9-1-1 call around 3 pm where a snowmobile collision was reported somewhere between Kukagami and Coniston. One party had suffered a broken leg.

The partners in the local S.T.O.P. Program, which involves Greater Sudbury Police, OPP and OFSC) mobilized and split into two teams to search the area. The parties were located at approximately 6:30 pm on STP trail #83. Initial investigation reveals that a father and son were operating their sleds on the trail with the father leading. The father stopped for an obstruction on the trail and his 16-year-old son attempted to stop aswell, but lost control of his sled and struck a tree. The 16-year-old suffered a broken femur.

Air Ambulance assisted in the search, checking the area for an hour and subsequently landed at the Kukagami helipad to airlift the youth to St. Joseph's Health Centre for treatment where he is listed in stable condition.

Residents of Bugg Lake and patrons and owners of Kukagami Lodge also assisted in the search, leaving the lodge open so police, stop officers and volunteers could have access to food and warmth.
