Known as a beloved teacher and selfless community member, Liz Herd has made it her mission to help those in need.

Following the heartbreaking loss of her son to suicide in 2015, Liz has devoted herself to providing unwavering support for individuals grappling with mental illness.

At the helm of Angels With Attitude, Liz orchestrates the collection of donations, assembling thoughtful gift baskets tailored for individuals and patients navigating the complexities of mental health challenges.

“Liz is such a wonderful person,” said nominator, Kerri O’Bumsawin. “She’s always going above and beyond for everyone, volunteering her time making care packages for people struggling with mental health issues.”

The majority of gift items are donated by friends and family and include necessities like clean socks, toiletries, winter gear and much more.

“We put together gift bags that hold items like toothbrushes, shampoo and conditioners and playing cards,” said Liz. “We also put together Christmas and birthday gift packages.”

“Over the last year, we’ve made 180 gift bags for individuals in the community”, Liz told Sudbury.com.

To express gratitude for Liz's tireless commitment to supporting individuals battling mental health challenges, Sudbury.com surprises her with a Random Act of Kindness surprise.

“It was great validation to know I am doing the right thing,” Liz told Subdury.com. “It was nice to feel you're on the right track and that you're doing something that matters. Every little act of kindness can make a difference we just dont realize it.”

“The fact someone would nominate me is overwhelming,” said Liz. “Thank you so much.”

Enthusiastic about promoting awareness, Liz conveyed to Sudbury.com, “I just want to highlight the addictions floor at the hospital is amazing - if you have an issue, they can show you the way and support you,”

Thank you to our generous co-sponsors, Paquette's Your Independent Grocer Hanmer and The Keg Sudbury, for helping us make this Random Act of Kindness possible.

Our nomination form is always open to nominate someone in the community who selflessly gives of themselves despite challenges or hardships, is positive in the face of adversity, or is just plain extraordinary and deserves a special surprise.
