The SDSSAA 2009 High School Hockey All-Star Game took place at the TM Davies Memorial Arena in Walden Wednesday evening with a participation of 70 students.
The girls' all-star teams were coached by Kerry Abols of Lockerby Composite School and Kristy Mackenzie of St. Charles College.
Team Mackenzie defeated Team Abols 4-2 with Morgan McCrory from the St. Benedict Bears scoring two of those goals. McCrory took home a game star along with Christie Sitko from the Lively Hawks and Danielle Rancourt from the Notre-Dame Alouettes.
The boys' all-star teams were coached by Jeff Paul from Espanola High School and Ian Gray from Lockerby Composite School. Team Gray was defeated 4-2 with the help of St. Charles Cardinals Nick Micelotta adding two markers and an assist.
In between the all-stars hockey action, a skills competition was held for speed, hardest shot, accuracy and penalty shots. For speed, taking home the honours are Ryan Legault from Bishop Carter with a time of 13.9s and Erika Kiviaho from Lively, with a time of 14.17s.
The best performance for hardest shot went to Paul Charette from Lasalle with 135kph and Mirjana Vrbanac from St. Benedict with 97kph.
The accuracy awards went to Dustin Peltier from Manitoulin with 10 points and Kristen Gammie from Manitoulin with four points. Awards for best penalty shot went to Collin Lammi from Lo-Ellen, Matt Zawierzeniec from Lasalle, Danielle Rancourt from Notre-Dame and Mariah Pollock from Lockerby.
