Apolloni optimistic for Team Canada's world boxing results

A team of Canadian boxer are representing the country at the 50th annual International Boxing Association's World Championship, being held in Milan, under local boxing coach Gord Apolloni.

The team marked it's first win Sept. 2 with Steve Rolls defeating his Georgian opponent, Leven Guledani, 10-3.

“Rolls made the first mark on the score sheet,” Apolloni wrote in a press release. “He maintained his lead while capitalizing on Guledani's mistakes, especially in the third round.”

While Canadian teammate Didier Bence lost his bout 14-4 against Viktar Zuyeu of Belarus, Apolloni, the head coach a the Top Glove Boxing Academy in Sudbury, wrote he remains “optimistic this team will perform better than any Canadian team has performed at a world's in a long time.

“Boxing has taken the right turn in the last year, results are coming,” he continued. “Boxing in Canada will again be the force it used to be.”
