The Laurentian Voyageurs basketball team prepares for a double header that includes a tilt with defending national champion, the Brock Badgers, on Nov. 7, before travelling to Guelph to play the Gryphons on Nov. 8. Game time for both days is scheduled for 8 p.m.
Despite taking home the title a year ago, the Badgers did not crack the CIS top-ten early this year. Friday will mark the first time that the Badgers will suit up in front of their home fans in the regular season since they hoisted the trophy last March.
The Badgers did graduate a lot of players from the
championship team a year ago, however CIS
championship MVP Owen White (Port Hope, Ont.) returns for a
fifth year with the Badgers and will lead them into action.
Brock seems poised, and will have aspirations of repeating; so
far this year they have been in stride playing their up-tempo
style.
Saturday the Voyageurs will travel to Guelph to tip-off against the Gryphons. Guelph is a big and strong team, unlike the Voyageurs have seen all year. Their guards also have lots of talent and will be a tough match-up for the Laurentian men. This weekend is the Voyageurs first double header of the year; they will need their depth to come through for them to be successful.
"We want to build off last weekend's offensive success, and improve on the defensive end," said Voyageurs bench boss Shawn Swords.
The Voyageurs travel to St. Catharine's for a tilt with the defending national champions, the Brock Badgers on Friday starting at 8 p.m. before heading up Highway Six to do battle with the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday also with tip scheduled for 8 p.m.
