A week after playing her last regular season home game in front of the Sudbury crowd, Cassandra Carpenter stepped on the court with the CIS career scoring record within her sights.

Last Saturday night Carpenter poured in 25 points against RMC to pass Theresa MacCuish on the CIS career scoring list with 2,133 career regular season points.

Carpenter entered the weekend just 20 points shy of passing the St. Francis Xavier standout MacCuish for the top spot on the all-time list.

MacCuish played from 1991-95 and 1996-97 finishing her career with a total of 2,111 points. Carpenter pulled within four points of the record last Friday scoring 16 points in a 75-69 loss to the Queen's Golden Gaels in Kingston. On Saturday, Carpenter added the CIS career scoring record to her list of accomplishments with 25 points against the RMC Paladins, breaking the record on a three pointer about two minutes into the game.

"It is a great feeling to accomplish something that at the outset of my career I never thought possible" said Carpenter in a news release. "This would never have been possible without the help of all of my teammates over my five years."

With two OUA regular season games left to play Carpenter sits with 2,133 points in 108 regular season conference games with a career average of 19.8 points-per-game. The native of Kanata, Ontario has been a consistent scorer over her five year career, averaging over 20 points per game in three seasons; 22.7 in 2005-06, 20.8 in 2006-07 and 20.8 in 2007-08. In her first two seasons she averaged 15.1 and 19.4 points per game respectively. Carpenter has also continued her pursuit to become the first CIS player to score 2000 points and pull down 1000 rebounds in a career.  She currently sits with 973 career rebounds heading into the final weekend of the season.

"It's a testament to her consistency and versatility that she's able to reach milestone like this" said Lady Vees head coach Mike Clarke. "She has literally played all five positions over her career and consistently been able to score at a high rate. Very few people are able to make adjustments to their game like that."

Carpenter and the Lady Vees now set there sights on the final two regular season games and a potential first round playoff bye when they take on the Ryerson Rams on Friday, Feb. 8 and the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday, Feb. 9.

Saturday's game could be a showdown for second place in the OUA east division. All games take place in Toronto.
