Residents in Nairn Centre will host an afternoon of Redneck games and other activities on Sunday, July 12 as a preview to the Redneck Dayz event set to take place Aug. 7 and 8. All events will take place at Bell T. Transport Inc. on Highway 17 in Nairn Centre.

Cortnee Jondreau, who has epilepsy, and Logan Vincent, who has leukemia, were the beneficiaries of the proceeds of the Redneck Dayz last year. Cortnee has been seizure-free for almost a year now. And while Logan is still battling cancer, he is showing signs of improvement, a press release stated. He will be the beneficiary once again of any donations made at this year's event.

“We are in the process of identifying other northern Ontario children and families who can use our support,” said organizers of the event in the release. “We are in the process of setting up the Nairn Redneck Childrens’ Charity to support these cases throughout the year.”

Starting at 2 p.m., the activities will include Redneck versions of horseshoes, sheep shearing, sumo belly bucking, an obstacle course, face painting and other games for all ages. As well, there will be a bicycle rodeo. Activities will conclude at 5:45 p.m. A barbecue and refreshments will be available during the day. All activities are free, however, donations to the Nairn Children's fund would be appreciated.

Following the activities, there will be a show by the OPP Golden Helmets, from beginning at 6 p.m. There will be an opportunity for the public to meet the team, ask questions and have photos taken.
