Confederation and St. Charles make noise at OFSAA

When the dust settled at the 2008 OFSAA AA senior girls' volleyball championship, local teams Confederation and St. Charles didn't medal but proved to be worthy opponents.

When the dust settled at the 2008 OFSAA AA senior girls' volleyball championship, local teams Confederation and St. Charles didn't medal but proved to be worthy opponents.

Franco Cite won the gold medal after defeating Number one seed General Amherst from southwest Ontario three sets to one.

In the bronze medal game, Centre Hastings from central Ontario dumped Dryden two sets to none.

The Confederation Chargers forged a 3-1 record in the round robin and finished second in Pool A with six points.

The Chargers fell in the championship quarter final match to Dryden (48-0 record overall this season) two sets to none (27-25, 25-19).

It was a strong showing for the team which featured many Grade 11 players who will return next season.

The St. Charles Cardinals went 2-2 in round robin play and finished third in Pool B with four points.

The Cardinals were relegated to the consolation side and won their quarter final match, two sets to none (25-18, 25-20) over Kapuskasing.

St. Charles was finally stopped in the consolation semi-final where they lost two sets to none (25-20, 25-19) to St. Mary's from western Ontario.

Matches were held jointly at St. Charles College and Cambrian College.
