Curling fever grips Greater Sudbury

The Tim Phillips Rink made a bold charge through the competition at the Northern Ontario Men's Curling Championship at the Idylwylde Golf and Country Club.

Despite starting the tournament 1-2, the Phillips Rink, representing the Sudbury Curling Club (SCC) won four straight games and was in first place with a 5-2 record.

The Phillips Team, consisting of Tim Phillips, Ron Henderson, Dion Dumontelle and Doug Hong, is in a heated battle with the Rob Gordon Rink of Colbalt-Haileybury today.

The Jamie Morphet Rink, also from the SCC, fell on hard times at the event and dropped to 1-5 after Thursday's draws.

They have dropped out of playoff contention.

The championship final goes Sunday, Feb. 11 at 12 noon.

Meanwhile in St. Catharines, the Tracy Horgan Rink from the Idylwylde Curling Club, lost their bid to make the playoffs at the 2007 M&M Meat Shops Canadian Junior Women's Curling Championships.

The Horgan Rink managed a 7-5 record and it was their third time at the event.
