Update: Paralympian athlete Steve Daniel placed fifth in men's single sculls final B race at the Paralympics in Beijing.

Sudbury paralympian athlete Steve Daniel is out of contention for a medal in the 2008 Paralympics being held in Beijing.

His first heat in the adaptive rowing Men's Single Sculls category, Daniel placed sixth out of six.

According to his coach, Thomas Merritt, Daniel had a rough race. He said he was hampered by rain and a cross-wind.

Daniel moved on to the repechage to race and if he finished in the top two he would have been able to compete for a medal. Unfortunately Daniel came in fourth.

Merritt said that Daniel did have a good race in the repechage, but the competition was just very fast this year.

Daniel will now race for international classification on Sept. 11.
