It was a frustrating end for a local team at the 2007 Northern Ontario Men's Curling Championships at the Idylwylde Curling Club.

The event ran all last week, and provided fans with plenty of great action.

The Tim Phillips Rink, featuring Tim Phillips, Ron Henderson, Dion Dumontelle and Doug Hong, provided much of the local buzz by going 6-2 in the round robin and finishing tied for first overall with the Al Harnden Rink from Sault Ste. Marie.

They were representing the Sudbury Curling Club (SCC).

Phillips made it through to the championship game on Sunday against Harnden. Despite beating Harnden twice - once in the round robin and the other in the page playoff system - the Phillips Rink was unable to contend and lost 14-6.

It all unraveled for the Phillips squad in the fourth end when Harnden was able to score five points and take a commanding 8-2 lead. They went on to score six more points in the eighth and ninth ends to seal the victory.

The other local team, the Jamie Morphet Rink from the SCC, went 3-5 and finished tied for sixth overall.
Harnden will now represent the North at the Brier in Hamilton in March.

Meanwhile in St. Catharines, the Tracy Horgan Rink from the Idylwylde Curling Club, lost their bid to make the playoffs last week at the 2007 M&M Meat Shops Canadian Junior Women's Curling Championships.

The Horgan Rink managed a 7-5 record and it was their third time at the event.
