École St-Denis has won a national award in recognition for its Quality Physical Education (QPE) program.

Physical and Health Education Canada (PHE Canada) formerly CAHPERD, has acknowledged that St-Denis, its teachers, and students are excellent role models for all other Canadian schools, by awarding them with the National Platinum Recognition Award, a press release stated.

École St-Denis is leading the advocacy initiative for the physical education of all Canadian children, according to the release. The school prides itself on offering its students QPE three to four times a week, for a minimum of 150 minutes.

On this 20th anniversary of the Recognition Awards Program, only 978 of 15,000 schools across Canada received honours for the 2008-2009 school year.

Honoured schools receive a QPE banner, a certificate, a congratulatory letter from the Prime Minister of Canada, as well as various free resources.

School principal Paul Henry said he is proud of this achievement.

“We have a tremendously devoted staff, which prides itself on offering our students a complete education on academic, spiritual, cultural and physical levels. This honour confirms, among others, that every one of these dimensions is equally important within our school.”
