Kal Tire Sudbury Junior Wolves forward Erik Belanger was the only player selected to play for Team East in the 2008 CJHL Prospects Game to be played in Summerside, PEI on Dec.17.

The 17-year-old Hanmer native has led the Jr. Wolves in scoring this season and has developed into one of the top forwards in the NOJHL. Belanger had opportunities to play in southern Ontario this year but elected to stay in Sudbury and play for his hometown team.

"This is a great thrill for me to be selected to play in this game and I would like to thank my teammates and coaches for my success so far this season" says Belanger in a release.

Belanger will be joined by some of the top 17 and 18 year olds in the Province of Ontario as they will go head-to-head with the top junior players from Western Canada.

The CJHL Prospects Game has turned into a tremendous showcase opportunity for junior players across Canada. Talent scouts from the Canadian Hockey League, NCAA and NHL will attend this event to identify top prospects for the future.

"We are extremely proud of Erik and his decision to stay in Sudbury and play for the Junior Wolves" said Wolves' president Blaine Smith in a release.

"Too often players believe it is necessary to go down south or out west in order to receive exposure. Erik is proof that if you play in the NOJHL your talents will be noticed and you will have the opportunity to play in the Top Prospects Game - the ultimate event in junior hockey exposure."

Junior Wolves' veterans Chris Kangas and Chris Pontes have been selected as NOJHL representatives to play in CJHL Events over the past two years.

Soo Thunderbirds rookie goaltender Ryan MacDonald was also selected to the Team East team as an alternate.

Belanger and his teammates will suit-up tonight against the Manitoulin Islanders at the Garson Arena at 8 p.m. The Junior Wolves will be looking to end a four-game losing skid.
