Sudbury Wolves head coach and general manager Mike Foligno has announced he will be stepping down as head coach of the team.

Foligno addressed the players and parents attending Wednesday night's Training Camp meeting at the Quality Inn and informed everyone he will need to take some time to tend to family obligations. Foligno will be continuing in his role as the team's general manager for this season.

Foligno, who has been coaching the team since 2003, has assigned the coaching responsibilities to his associate coach Bryan Verreault and new assistant coach Jeff Beukeboom. Verreault, 46, has been Foligno's associate coach for the past six seasons.

Verreault has coached for more than 25 years in the Sudbury area and his teams have won championships at every level he has coached. Beukeboom, 44, was recently hired by Foligno and will coach the defence. Beukeboom played 14 years in the NHL and won four Stanley Cups with Edmonton and New York.

"I care deeply for this team and I am very confident that we have the players and the coaches to lead this team to a championship this season" said Foligno, in a press release. "I know that Bryan and Jeff will do a great job for us behind the bench and we will have quality players and leaders on this year's team.”
