Former Olympian to speak at 4th Guts and Glory luncheon

Alex Baumann, Olympic gold medallist and Sudbury native, will speak at the fourth annual Guts and Glory Luncheon. This year's event — hosted by SportLink Greater Sudbury Sport Council — will be held Nov. 4 at the Holiday Inn, 1696 Regent St., from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

According to a press release, this fundraising event provides an opportunity to hear local high profile athletes explain what makes them tick, how they came to be successful athletes and how, as role models, they can inspire and encourage others to greatness.

Baumann, who won two gold medals in swimming events at the 1984 Olympics, is also the executive director of Own the Podium 2010. Own the Podium is a sport technical initiative designed to help Canada become the number one nation in terms of medals won at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and to place in the top three countries overall at the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.

Sharing the stage with Baumann are local 2012 Olympic hopefuls Caroline Ehrhardt, who is the current Canadian junior champion for triple jump, and Jordan Mulloy, who is the Canadian national gold medallist in trampoline.

A silent auction will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by the luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Door prizes will also be drawn throughout the afternoon.

Tickets are $60.00 per person or $480 for a table of eight.
