Funds announced for youth sports, recreation

Two local not-for-profit organizations will receive funding from the Ontario government's Communities in Action Fund (CIAF) to improve opportunities for children and youth in Greater Sudbury through sport and physical activity, Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci announced recently.

"This funding will provide many local children and youth with an opportunity to participate in new sport and recreation activities," says Bartolucci.

The following programs will be created through these grants to help enrich the lives of young participants:

The Nickel City Triathlon Team will receive $12,661 to create a triathlon and multi-sport program for youth.

The Independent Living Resource Centre will receive $7,400 to create a house ball hockey league for clients' children.

"The McGuinty government is committed to working at the community level to improve rates of physical activity," concludes Bartolucci. "Programs funded through the Communities in Action Fund are important in our efforts to enhance opportunities to participate in sport and recreation."
