The Northern Chill 15U girls volleyball team came away with the gold after winning the McGregor Cup Championship West in North Bay Jan. 17.

The girls started their day against the Orillia Suns. Despite a bit of a slow start they played very well and won the match 25-15, 25-12.

Next up was the Burlington Blaze, with the Chill taking it in two with scores of 25-12, 25-21.

Finally in round robin play the Chill took on the Niagara Falls Rapids. It was a tighter game. The girls showed their skill by holding off the opposition, and brought it home in two again 25-16, 25-23.

The favourite game of the day was with their friendly rivals, the North Bay Flurry, whom they ended up defeating with  scores of 25-15, 16-25, 15-13.

The final for the gold was against the Halton Hurricanes. The Chill dominated the first game 25-7, and although the Hurricanes fought back they could not stop the cold front from the hard hitting Chill who won handily 25-18.

Coach Richard Breault said he is very proud of his team because they all increased their skills and have gained more and more unity with each tournament they play together.

The Northern Chill has now moved up to the Premier Division in Ontario for tournament play.
