The Greater Sudbury Cubs have announced the addition of three players to the team’s roster.

One of those new faces is 17-year-old goaltender Matthew Vahramian, who was taken from the Elliot Lake Vikings in exchange for a development fee.Hailing from South Bruce Peninsula, he has played in 18 NOJHL games and was the winning goaltender in back-to-back wins earlier this season over the Cubs and the Soo Thunderbirds.

“Matthew is a great addition to our veteran goaltending tandem of Noah Metivier and Noah Beaulne,” said Cubs GM Dave Clancy. “We have witnessed first-hand how good Matthew is as a young goaltender in this league and he will gain some valuable experience by working with our veteran tandem and our goaltending coach Eric Navarro.”

The team also added some scoring punch with the addition of Ethan Larmand to the roster. The 20-year-old played 173 games in the OHL after being selected No. 26 overall by the Sudbury Wolves in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection.

The Midland resident scored 32 goals and added 30 assists for 62 points in the OHL before joining the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Junior League earlier this season.

Cubs Head Coach Darryl Moxam was instrumental in bringing the skilled forward to the Cubs, the team said.

“My time coaching Ethan for three seasons was a very special time and to reunite and get a chance to try and win a championship together with the Sudbury Cubs family is very special,” Moxam said. “This young man will add to our hockey club in so many different ways both on and off the ice and our entire organization cannot wait for him to arrive here and welcome him to the Cubs family.”

And finally, the Cubs welcome back Nolan Newton for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.

The 17-year-old was reassigned to the Sudbury Cubs by the Barrie Colts of the OHL.

He played 13 OHL games for the Colts in November and December before returning home for the holiday break. The release states the Colts and Newton decided it would be best for Newton’s hockey development to assume a leadership role with his hometown junior team. Newton remains eligible to be called-up by the Colts for the duration of this season.

“We are excited that Nolan has agreed to return to the Cubs where he will continue from where he left off as one of the premiere offensive players in the NOJHL and CJHL” Clancy said. “Nolan has clearly demonstrated that his skill-set is off-the-charts at this level and we are fortunate that the Barrie Colts organization has recognized the benefit of returning Nolan to us and assisting us in leading the Cubs to a championship season.”
