Melissa Richardson
Confederation Secondary School

Richardson is a Grade 12 honour roll student who has been involved with athletics and student parliament for her four years as a Charger.  She has played basketball and volleyball for four years and was co-captain of these senior teams this year.  In her Grade 12 year, Richardson also participated on the girls' slo-pitch, tennis and curling teams.

Richardson leads by example. She believes that it is important for an athlete to set good examples that inspire all team members to become the best that they can on and off the court.

Richardson has developed into an individual that demonstrates the qualities of a proud and caring Charger.  She has volunteered countless hours to athletics and school events.  From co-organizing the athletic banquet to canvassing for food in Confederation's annual Christmas is Giving campaign, as well as taking a leadership role in the Organizing Committee for the 2005 Boys A OFSAA Soccer, Richardson strives to be involved with school events.

Richardson will be attending Memorial University in Corner Brook, Newfoundland to take theatre in the fine arts program.

Martellacci is this week's male Athlete of the Week.  Joey is a Grade 9 student at St. Benedict who has made a name for himself in only his first year as a Bear. Martellacci played midget basketball, junior soccer and junior football, while keeping at steady 90 percent average at St. Benedict.

At the Bears athletic banquet, Martellacci won the MVP for the junior boys' soccer team, after leading his team to a second place finish. Martellacci also tried football for the first time and had incredible success.

During the Junior Grid Iron Challenge held at Lasalle, Martellacci had two spectacular touchdown runs (85 and 93 yards) while returning kicks for all the special teams.

Martellacci was also awarded the MVP for Junior Boys Football. Martellacci also plays soccer for the Panhellenic U15 team.
