A + Performer of the Day : Lo-Ellen Park hockey player Katie Maziarski. In her first three games, Maziarski scored seven goals and nine points to help the Knights start the season 3-0 in girls' Division II action. She scored a hat trick and four points against Chelmsford on Nov. 15. Maziarski and Lo-Ellen play Confederation next on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 3:30 pm.

Volleyball : The Lively senior boys' squad is in Smiths Falls competing at the A OFSAA championship. Lively is ranked 12th. They play their first three games today. At noon versus Woodland Christian (fifth), at 3 pm versus Beaton Christian (18th) and at 6 pm versus West Elgin (second). On Saturday, at 8 am versus Aldershot (15th). The medal round starts at 11 am on Saturday. The Hawks progress can be tracked at www.ofsaa.on.ca/boysavolleyball .

Football : The high school league recently dished out their awards. Here's a compilation of the top individual winners. Notre-Dame's Eric Roque was named the Sid Forester MVP. St. Benedict's Joey Martellacci received the Chris Bartolucci Offensive Player of the Year. Lockerby's Kevin Stradiotto was named the Gary Ricker Defensive Player of the Year.

Basketball: The SDSSAA girls' basketball sport committee has set a date and site for the 2007 Senior All-Star game this year. The game will be hosted at Lockerby on Thursday, Nov. 29, beginning at 7:30 pm.  Selected representatives from each of the sixteen teams that participated in both divisions are expected to take part.

The schedule: Senior boys' hockey floods local rinks this weekend. Today, Confederation and St. Charles tangle at 7 pm, followed by Lo-Ellen versus Notre-Dame at 9 pm. Both games are at Carmichael Arena. On Saturday, Lockerby and Lasalle go toe-to-toe at Carmichael at 6:30 pm. Espanola hosts Notre-Dame at 7 pm and Manitoulin hosts Lively at 8 pm.
