Eric Cayen
ESC l'Horizon
Grade 10
Volleyball
Cayen played a dominant role in helping his
team capture the school's first-ever division A volleyball
title and NOSSA A title.
Cayen's role as team captain permitted him to
lead not only by example but through his leadership skills. He
displayed high aerial attacks that wowed the crowds in
attendance throughout the region. Cayen will be a force during
his senior years at l'Horizon.
Kelsey Fielding
St Benedict Catholic Secondary School
Grade 10
Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer and
Badminton
The 15-year-old Grade 10 student from St.
Benedict is a member of the senior girls' volleyball team and
also played on the junior girls' basketball team this year.
Fielding is a member of the girls' soccer and badminton teams.
Aside from being a solid student, she also plays for the
Sudburnia Soccer team and the Northern Chill Volleyball
team.
Hockey
The Confederation Chargers won the 18th
annual Canadian Enterprise Cup in Lake Placid, NY
recently.
The tournament was contested at the Herb
Brooks Olympic Centre.
The Chargers dumped the Abbey Park Eagles 3-0
in the championship final with Adam McCue recording the shut
out. James Paris was awarded the Tournament MVP trophy for his
efforts.
Basketball
The Laurentian University women's basketball
program got a huge shot in the arm and an early Christmas
present when it was announced two local high school basketball
stars committed to the renowned program.
Lasalle Secondary School stand out Lisa
Furchner and Lockerby Composite School star Katie Goggins have
both decided to spurn big, lucrative offers from NCAA Division
I schools in order to remain at home and continue to thrill
basketball fans with their fantastic skills.
Laurentian head coach Mike Clarke foresees a
bright future with stars like Furchner, who was a four time
NOSSA winner and three time OFSAA participant, as well as
helping Team Ontario to the gold medal at the 2005 Canada
Summer Games, joining the Lady Vees machine.
"Lisa's skill set is a perfect fit for the
way our team plays," said Clarke in a press release. "She will
mesh with our young group of forwards that I feel can grow
together into one of the top front lines in the CIS."
