The Kal Tire Jr. Wolves closed-out the pre-Christmas schedule with a 3-2 shootout loss to the Abitibi Eskimos Saturday night in Iroquois Falls.
Despite a spirited effort and outstanding goaltending from veteran Joey Delwo, the Jr. Wolves could not defeat the pesky Eskimos, who fired 46 shots at Sudbury's net, compared to Sudbury's 36 shots on Abitibi's goal.
Veterans Zach McGillis and Chris Kangas scored for the Jr. Wolves. Chris Pontes delivered a solid performance on the blueline and was named the game's second star.  Jr. Wolves forward Erik Belanger was ejected for fighting with nine minutes remaining in the third period.
The shootout loss means the Jr. Wolves now trail Abitibi by six points for second place in the Eastern Conference. The Jr. Wolves have a game in hand and have 18 regular season games remaining.
The Jr. Wolves will return to the ice on Wednesday, Jan. 4, when they host the Eskimos at the Garson Arena at 8 p.m.
