The Kal Tire Jr. Wolves closed out the NOJHL Showcase Tournament Jan. 11 with a 4-2 victory over Billy Stone and the Blind River Beavers.

With NCAA, OUAA, and OHL team scouts looking on, the Jr. Wolves fired 56 shots at the Beaver's outstanding netminder Billy "the kid" Stone.  It took some third period heroics by the Jr. Wolves top-guns to pull out the victory.

Chris Kangas led the way with a goal and two assists, including the game winner with just over two minutes to play. Jeff Verreault, Erik Belanger and Tyler Arps added singles.

Rookie goaltender Nick McMullen was solid in net for the Jr. Wolves and made 34 saves to earn the victory.

The Jr. Wolves trailed 1-0 after one period and 2-0 after two periods before storming back with four unanswered tallies in the third period.

On Saturday night, the Jr. Wolves were outmatched from start to finish as the host Soo Eagles hammered the Wolves 9-1. The Eagles led 1-0 after the first period and extended their lead to 5-0 after the second period. Erik Belanger had the only goal late in the third period to break the Eagles' shut-out.

The Jr. Wolves return to the Garson Arena on Wednesday night when they host the first place North Bay Skyhawks. Game time is 8 p.m.

The Jr. Wolves currently sit third in the Eastern Conference and trail the Abitibi Eskimos by 13 points. The Jr. Wolves have 15 games remaining to play in the regular season.
