The defending NOJHL Champion Kal Tire Junior Wolves will look for continued improvement in the second-half of the season as they open up the New Year on home ice this Wednesday night against the Abitibi Eskimos.

Game time is 8 p.m. at the Garson arena.

The Jr. Wolves and the Eskimos have battled each other hard all season, with Abiitbi leading the Jr. Wolves four wins to three in the seven games played against each other to date.

The Jr. Wolves and Abitibi will meet three times in the month of January to close out their 10-game season series. Abitibi was the number one seeded team at the start of the 2008-09 season by northern hockey pundits.

The Jr. Wolves have enjoyed a good long rest over the holiday season and are now ready for a gruelling 10-games-in-24 days schedule.

After Wednesday's home game, the Jr. Wolves will leave for Sault, Michigan, where they will play two league games against the Blind River Beavers and the Soo Eagles in the NOJHL Showcase Tournament.

The Tournament will feature the attendance of talent scouts from the NHL, NCAA, OHL and Canadian universities. It is an excellent opportunity for Jr. Wolves players to showcase their talents to the higher levels of hockey.

On the injury front, the Jr. Wolves are awaiting the return of rookie forward Mark Zagordo. The 17-year-old rookie from Sault Ste Marie was injured in November and is expected to return to the Jr. Wolves lineup sometime in January.

Due to injuries and depth requirements, the Jr. Wolves are looking to add one more skater to the team's roster prior to Jan. 10. If you are interested in joining the Jr. Wolves for the balance of the season, you are asked to contact head coach Dave Clancy at 693-0623.
