The Laurentian Lady Vees soccer team will be holding the third annual Jamieson Natural Sources Kick for the Cure event on Saturday, September 13, 2008 with the Lady Vees set to play the RMC Paladins at 2:15 p.m. on the Laurentian Soccer field.

Kick for the Cure is an event initiated by the Laurentian Lady Vees soccer team to raise awareness and much needed funds for breast cancer research. The Vees will be wearing pink jerseys in Saturday's game and are looking for people to sponsor each player.

The cost of the sponsorship is $200, and thanks to partnering with the Canadians Breast Cancer Foundation the event is able to offer a tax receipt to anyone who sponsors a player. Businesses can also become a shirt sponsor for $500, with two shirt sponsorships available.

For the first time the event has a title sponsor thanks to Jamieson Natural Sources who have graciously decided to support the initiative and for the second time in the three years of the event the teams will be playing with pink soccer balls thanks to Sleeman Breweries Limited.

The game balls will be signed by the team and used as part of the silent auction being held at the event.

In the first two years of the Kick for the Cure, the players also sold t-shirts. This year the Lady Vees will be selling long sleeved pink shirts with Pink Army on the front of them.

The cost is $15 per shirt, which includes admission to both Saturday and Sunday's games.

The shirts will remain on sale all year long and will also be sold as part of the Battle for Breast Cancer to be held in January at a varsity basketball game. This is part of the challenge between the soccer and basketball teams for who can raise the most money for this great cause.

The Lady Vees rose just shy of $2,000 in the event's inaugural year and just over $3,500 last year, bringing the event's total to $5,500. The Lady Vees have set a lofty goal of doubling their first two years with a goal of $6,000 for the third annual event.
