Lady Vees host pair of Kingston foes

The Laurentian Lady Vees soccer team prepares to play a pair of Kingston Universities this weekend.

The Laurentian Lady Vees soccer team prepares to play a pair of Kingston Universities this weekend.

Saturday, September 13 Laurentian will take on the RMC Paladins in the third annual Jamieson Natural Sources Kick for the Cure with kickoff set for 2:15 p.m. On Sunday, September 14 the Queen's Golden Gales will visit Sudbury, with kick-off again scheduled for 2:15 p.m.

The Lady Vees took four of a possible six points off the Paladins last year, winning 2-1 at home before traveling to Kingston the next week and drawing 2-2. Laurentian and RMC finished in a sixth place tie in the OUA East last season, with the Paladins edging the Lady Vees out of the playoffs by having more wins.

RMC is one of the fittest teams in the CIS which will not make the Lady Vees lives easy on Saturday, in what promises to be a high tempo game. The Paladins enter this weekend with a 1-1-0 record.

Queen's is always a difficult match up for the Lady Vees, particularly in Kingston, making the points up for grabs this weekend that much more important. Last season the two teams battled to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of a home and home series over two weekends.

Game two at the Golden Gales home pitch was a different story as Queen's demolished the Laurentian women 5-0. Queen's has jumped out of the gates quick with a 2-1-0 record in this young 2008 campaign. There will be hard fought battles for every ball and the team that controls the midfield will gain the upper hand.

"We must create more opportunities and finish them," said Rob Gallo, Lady Vees head coach in a realease. "We came off a solid second half performance against Ottawa and we will need to take that energy into the games this weekend."

The third annual Jamieson Natural Kick for the Cure is Saturday as the Lady Vees take on RMC at 2:15 p.m. Laurentian and Queen's will do battle Sunday starting at 2:15 p.m. both games will take place on the Laurentian Soccer Field.
