Lady Vees, Voyageurs take their games on the road

The Laurentian Lady Vees and Voyageurs soccer teams will be heading to Kingston to face both the Queen's Gaels and RMC Paladins this weekend.

The teams will face off against the Gaels on Sept. 19 and take on the Paladins on Sept. 20. The ladies will kick-off the matches at 12 p.m., followed by the men at 2:15 p.m., both days.

The Voyageurs will look to extend their three-game point streak this weekend and build on their 2-0-1 record. The Lady Vees hope to add on to their 3-1-0 record.

“The Queen's game will be a very tough match for us,” said head coach Rob Gallo. “We are on the road for the first time this season and we will need to be sharp in the defensive and attacking phases.

"We are generating offense however Queen's will be very organized and will not allow us the time and space to set up," he continued. "We have a good team, but our team must outwork everyone they play to achieve success."

Gallo said that while they don' t know much about the RMC team, he expects a good competition.

“We know full well that the game is a must win for us and we will be working extremely hard this weekend to get points."

Voyageurs' head coach Carlo Castrechino said his team is looking to build on “an impressive home stand,” against the undefeated Gaels.

“The games are always tough battles versus Queen's, with most results always ending in a draw or a 1 goal differential,” Castrechino said.

“RMC also plays our team very tough with their tenacity and fitness; we need to be mentally focussed for this match,” he added. “We need to continue playing solid defence and find a way to capitalize on our scoring chances.”
