Lady Wolves midget AA squad best in Ontario

The Sudbury Lady Wolves Midget AA capped off a very successful season by winning gold at the OWHA All-Ontario Championship. The Lady Wolves opened round robin play by defeating Chatham 4-0.

The Sudbury Lady Wolves Midget AA capped off a very successful season by winning gold at the OWHA All-Ontario Championship.

The Lady Wolves opened round robin play by defeating Chatham 4-0. Goal scorers were Josee Belanger, Kelsey Smith, Jacklyn Upchan and Valerie Valiquette, while Sheema Taylor registered the shutout.

In game two, the Lady Wolves faced a very stubborn goaltender and were not able to score after 32 shots, but skated away with a 0-0 tie against Ottawa. Vanessa Jacques only faced 11 shots for the shutout.

Mississauga was their next opponent, but the Lady Wolves had no problem disposing the Chiefs 4-1. Goals were scored by Maxime Baronette, Micheline Frappier, Danielle Rancourt and Smith.

In the quarter final game, Sudbury met up with Markham Stouffville, the team which had eliminated the Lady Wolves at the Ontario Winter Games.

This time the Lady Wolves came out victorious with a 3-1 victory, with Dana Crispo, Upchan and Valiquette providing the goals.

The toughest competition came in the semi-final game against Etobicoke. The team was down 1-0 in the third period until Tara Dantouze provide the tying goal with just under two minutes remaining in the game.

Frappier scored the overtime goal while shorthanded to give Sudbury a dramatic 2-1 win. 

The finals saw the Lady Wolves face Ottawa.

Sudbury stormed the Ottawa team relentlessly by burying five goals in two periods of play and went on to claim the All Ontario Championship with a 5-2 victory.

Goal scores for the finals were Frappier with two and singles going to Morgan McCrory, Leslie Taylor and Valiquette. 

The remaining Lady Wolves players are: Rene Brunet, Stephanie Bonin, Rebecca Bond and Sara Giroux. Coaching staff of Albert Crispo, Marc Brunet, Barry McCrory and manager Mike Giroux, along with our trainer Liz Taylor.
