Local super heavyweight boxer Kyle Gauthier, who trains out of the Ontario National Training Centre?s Top Glove Boxing Academy, has been selected to compete on a national select boxing team headed to Puerto Rico this week.

Gauthier, who captured a silver medal at the 2002 provincial Olympic style boxing championships, will take part in two tournaments in the San Juan area and could see as many as six bouts this week.

?This is a great opportunity for Kyle to gain more valuable international experience. It?s been difficult to match him up lately because nobody wants to get in the ring with him,? said Gord Apolloni, ONTC head coach. ?Puerto Rico will give him a chance to measure his abilities against competition from around the world.?
