Three-time World Cup cross-country ski medallist Devon Kershaw will be in Sudbury later this month to raise awareness of bike safety.

Sudbury's up and coming cross-country skiers will have two Olympians attend their training session tomorrow evening for extra motivation.

Devon Kershaw and Chandra Crawford, both members of the Canadian Cross-Country Ski Team, will be leading a group of aspiring young skiers from Laurentian Nordic and Walden Ski Club through a one-hour training session at Laurentian University Stadium at 6 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Kershaw, a Sudbury native, said he is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the local ski clubs and hopefully motivate the next generation to strive for excellence.

"Chandra and I are extremely excited about Tuesday's training session," said Kershaw. "I look forward to offering advice about technique and training, but most importantly I want to pass along the message that anything is possible with lots of hard work."

Kershaw is in Sudbury for two other events this week. On July 29, he's teaming up with Eleanor McMahon, the founder of Share the Road (www.sharetheroad.ca), to raise awareness for bike safety and healthy lifestyles. This joint initiative between Kershaw and Share the Road will feature a group bike ride in Sudbury on the evening of July 29. The 15-kilometre ride will start and finish at Science North and will be open to cyclists of all ages and abilities. The ride is set to begin at 6 p.m.

On July 30, Kershaw will be hosting a personal fundraising luncheon at the Idylwylde Golf Club between 12 noon and 1 p.m. in an effort to raise funds and find corporate partners to join him in his journey to 2010 and beyond. Guests will be treated to a behind-the-scenes look into the life of a World Cup ski racer as Kershaw will discuss his rise to the top of the world cross-country ranks, as well as his expectations for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Tickets for the luncheon can be purchased for $50 at www.devonkershaw.com.
