Figure skater Meagan Duhamel, 23 of Lively, and partner Craig Buntin, 28 of Kelowna, B.C., earned a silver medal at the 2009 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships, held last week in Saskatoon.

After the short program portion of the competition, Duhamel and Buntin gave an outstanding performance, according to the Skate Canada website, and had the lead going into the free skate. However, they struggled to maintain their composure - bobbling on side-by-side triple toes to start, and turning side-by-side triple salchows into doubles shortly after. Their score of 116.76 for the free skate was not enough to hold the lead.

The pair of Jessica Dubé, of Quebec and Bryce Davison, of Ontario, - world silver medalists - battled back from a second place ranking after the short program to take the gold overall. Duhamel and Buntin finished six points behind the champs.

The Canadian silver-medalists may have to wait until February's Four Continents competition to see whether they can skate in the world championships to be held in Los Angeles in March, according to Skate Canada.
