Golf season has only just begun in these parts, but Idylwylde Golf & Country Club junior Tristan Renaud appears to be in mid-season form.

Late last week, Renaud teamed with Brendan Dunphy of the Whitevale Golf Club to finish second at the Golf Ontario Men's Better-Ball Championship, hosted at the Oakdale Golf & Country Club in North York.

Renaud and Dunphy carded a single-round score of six under par 66, finishing behind only Peter Sauerbrei (Cataraqui GC - Kingston) and Simon Reyes (Brampton), one shot better at 65.

In fact, the field was very tightly bunched, with Justin Allen (Weston)/Abe Holmes (Barrie) and Ryan Tsang (Cedar Brae)/Truman Tai (Cedar Brae) both at 67.

The field also included the local pairing of Jay Jewett and Matt Dumontelle at 70, and former Sudburian Cam Hreljac and Chris Lee at three over par 75.

Renaud also made the cut for the Junior Spring Classic, set for May 20-22 at Wooden Stix Golf Club in Uxbridge. Before the end of the month, he will be off to Belleville, participating in the Future Links, driven by Acura Ontario Championship from May 26-28.
