With the start of the 2006-07 varsity season just around the corner, Laurentian University Voyageur Athletics has released the 2006-07 schedules of its 10 varsity teams. Lady Vees & Voyageurs Soccer
The Laurentian soccer teams once again kick off the new
varsity season with the Lady Vees opening it all up with
exhibition matches on the road against Northern Michigan
University and Northwoods College on Aug. 21st and 22nd.
The Laurentian men then take to the road for exhibition action
of their own at the Concordia Stingers tournament from Aug. 25
to 27.
The Laurentian Lady Vees open the regular season and
their home schedule with a game against CIS silver medallists,
the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 2 pm. On
Sunday, Sept. 3, the Voyageurs open their home schedule against
the Carleton Ravens at noon. The Lady Vees also play on
Sunday with their game time set for 2 pm.
Other highlights to the soccer schedule include games
against LU's northern rival Nipissing University on Wednesday,
Sept. 13 at Laurentian, with game time set for 2 and 4 pm and
Wednesday, Oct. 18 at Nipissing with game times set for 5 and 7
pm. On Sept. 16, the Lady Vees will be wearing a pink
jersey in order to raise funds for breast cancer
research. Individual people or businesses can sponsor a
player as well as purchase T-shirts for the game.
The OUA playoffs are scheduled to start on Oct. 25 with the
OUA final four scheduled for Nov. 4 to 5 and the CIS
Championships scheduled for Nov. 10 to 12.
Lady Vees & Voyageurs Basketball
The basketball teams will once again see early action this year with both teams travelling on Labour Day weekend for exhibition games against NCAA opponents. Members, past and present from the Lady Vees basketball squad, will travel to Toronto to take on the Creighton Blue Jays with game time set for 11 am at the University of Toronto gym.
The Voyageurs basketball team will also be in action Labour
Day weekend, except they will be in Ottawa where they will play
a pair of games, the first on Sunday, September 3rd against
Lasalle University at 1 pm and the second against the
University of Louisville on Monday, Sept. 4 at 11
am. Both games will be played at the Raven's Nest at
Carleton University.
In other pre-season action the Lady Vees will take on the
National Elite Development Academy, Laurier, and Western during
a tour of Ontario on Oct. 21-23 and Bishop's University,
University of Quebec at Montreal and Concordia University while
on a tour of Quebec Oct. 27-29. The Voyageurs on the
other hand will travel to the Concordia Stingers tournament on
Oct. 6 -7 and the Ottawa Gee-Gees tournament on Oct. 21-23 as
well as take on another NCAA opponent in Weber State in Utah
Nov. 4.
Both teams will play their annual alumni games Oct. 14 at 1
and 3 pm respectively.
The Lady Vees will open their regular season at home Nov. 4
against the York Lions, while the men will wait to open their
season on the road against the Guelph Gryphons Nov. 10.
Both the men and women will play double headers for the
majority of the season with the women taking to the court at 6
pm and the men at 8 pm.
Other notable games are against division rivals the
University of Toronto Varsity Blues, who come to the Ben Avery
Gym Feb. 10 and the Ottawa Gee-Gees who will play in Sudbury
Jan. 12. The three-time defending CIS men's basketball
champion Carleton Ravens will come to the Ben Avery Gym Jan.

For the women the OUA playoffs start on Saturday, Feb. 17,
while the men will wait for their playoffs to begin
Wednesday, Feb. 21. The OUA championship games are set
for Saturday, March 3 (women) and Saturday, March 10 (men) with
both games occurring at the West division winner.
The CIS championship for the women will take place at
Memorial University from March 9-11, while the men's
championship will be contested the following weekend from March
16-18 in Halifax.
Lady Vees & Voyageurs Swimming
The Laurentian swim teams will play host to three meets this season including when they kick off their season with their annual alumni meet on Sept. 22. The team then follows that up with their first OUA meet of the season against the McMaster Marauders on Sept. 29 at the LU pool. The other meet they host this season is a two-event round against Brock, York and Wilfrid Laurier University Nov. 4 and 5.
Another highlight to the swimming schedule is the Campbell
divisional meet which takes place Nov. 18 and 19 at the
University of Toronto.
The Voyageurs and Lady Vees will finish their season as they
try to bring home a banner at the OUA Championships Feb. 9-12
at the University of Guelph and the CIS Championships on Feb.
23-25 at Dalhousie University.
Lady Vees Cross-Country Running
The cross-country running team gets off to a running start when they take to the trails for the Laurentian Open/Ramsey Tour event being held Sept. 10. This is the first of six events the Vees will participate in during the 2006-07 season.
