It was a busy weekend for the Laurentian Voyageurs as both the men's and women's soccer teams took to the field, looking to start the season on a positive note.

In men's soccer action, the Voyageurs suffered two heartbreaking losses as they were shut out 2-0 Saturday by the University of Toronto Varsity Blues, and 4-0 on Sunday by the York University Lions.

While Voyageur head coach Carlo Castrechino stressed that the season was not yet lost, he was quick to express disappointment with his team's performance.

"We didn't create any chances like we should have," Castrechino said after the game.

"We will get back to work Tuesday with the possibility of line-up and formation changes."

The Lady Vees didn't fare much better this weekend, falling 2-1 to the U of T's Varsity Blues on Saturday and tying their Sunday game versus the York University Lions 2-2.

Brittany MacMillan scored the lone goal for the Lady Vees on Saturday while Jenna Roach and Cara Smith each lit the lamp in Sunday's game.

"We came out today exactly the same as yesterday, with a terrible first half," said Lady Vees head coach Rob Gallo after Sunday's tie.

"Yet we manage to come back in the second half, which shows our capability as a team."

Both the Lady Vees and the Voyageurs play their next games against Nipissing on Sept. 17 at Laurentian University.
