Both the men's and women's soccer teams at Laurentian University played host to their northern rivals, the Nipissing Lakers, on Tuesday, and both teams sent the visitors home with a loss.

The Laurentian Lady Vees defeated the Lakers,3-2. Newmarket native Lisa Watson tallied twice for Laurentian and Dayna Corelli of Sudbury added another. Meghan Hoffberg of Brampton made eight saves in the Lady Vees win.

“We changed the way we were playing,” said head coach Rob Gallo. “We put (Alana) Brady up front with (Lisa) Watson. I thought that was a very good combination.

“We have give Nipissing credit. They came back and made it 2-2. But you have to give our girls credit because they found a way to win that game. This weekend is another must win, you have to win them all at home.”

The Lady Vees (2-1-0) will be in action this weekend on Sept. 12 vs. Trent (0-1-1) at 12 p.m. at the Laurentian Soccer Field.

The Laurentian Voyageurs edged their rivals by a score of 2-0. Daniel Keir of Hamilton found the back of the net twice. Scott Cliff of Hanmer stopped all twelve shots he faced to pick up the win and a shutout.

“Good to get the first win out of the way,” said head coach Carlo Castrechino. “We had a great first half, but I thought we hung on in the second half. I thought Nipissing really pushed us and we have some things to work on. We hung on and are happy to get three points.”

The Voyageurs (1-0-1) will take the field against the Trent Excalibur (0-1-1) at the Laurentian Soccer Field Sept. 12 at 2:15 p.m.
