Teams can still register for the Ontario March of Dimes' 4th annual Edith Casaletto Memorial Pond Hockey Tournament taking place Saturday, Feb. 28 at Rocky's on Lake Wanapitei.
"People really look forward to taking part in our winter tournament so it grows with popularity every year. So far, we've already registered half of our team spaces," said Janine Roy, employment services co-ordinator for the Ontario March of Dimes in Sudbury, in a release. "We want to make sure that teams register early so that they don't miss out."
The Edith Casaletto Pond Hockey Tournament solely helps to maintain a fund created after the passing of one of the Ontario March of Dimes' Sudbury employment service counsellors in 1998. Last year, 22 teams participated and over $9,500 was raised for the Edith Casaletto Memorial Fund.
The "Eddy Fund" ensures that March of Dimes clients have access to the tools needed to become more employable or to maintain their current job. There is always a wide variety of requests for Eddy Fund financial assistance.
Some of the fund requests last year ranged from: cover licensing fees, training costs, purchasing safety boots and equipment, hearing aids, special dentistry to other important essentials clients needed on the job.
"The Sudbury office provides employment assistance to over 450 clients a year. Our clients don't have the financial resources available to purchase many essentials needed on the job, that's why our Eddy Fund is so important. All money raised at our pond hockey tournaments goes towards the Edith Casaletto Memorial Fund and stays in our community to help people in our area," Roy continued.
