Hello OHL fans!
I thought I would start with a few Sudbury
Wolves snippets.
Don't look now, but it seems as if Rafal
Martynowski has regained his deft touch with the puck. In his
last five games, Martynowski has recorded four goals and seven
points, by far his best stretch this season.
In the month of October, Martynowski only had
two goals and four points in 12 games.
If he has indeed turned it around in the long
term, it would provide a much-needed boost to the Wolves'
offence.
Nick Foligno finally got the monkey off his
back. Foligno scored his first-ever career OHL goal last
Saturday against Kitchener. Way to go!
Speaking of the Wolves, as of Nov. 24, they
were leading the league in - surprise, surprise - penalty
minutes. The Wolves have totaled 666 minutes so far this season
in 24 games.
This insanity hasn't had a big negative
effect on the Wolves' penalty killing units. The Wolves'
penalty kill rating is 79.6 per cent, good for 10th in
the
league.
Last season, the Wolves killed penalties at a
rate of 82.5 percent, good for ninth in the league.
Sudbury native Cory McGillis finally played
some games for the Windsor Spitfires after missing a good chunk
of the schedule with an unspecified back injury. In nine games,
McGillis registered two assists, but there's rumblings he will
be traded by the Spitfires in the future.
Windsor selected McGillis seventh overall in
the 2005 OHL Priority Draft. Here's hoping he can play the rest
of the year without incident.
Coming soon to an arena near you is a player
by the name of Robin Big Snake, who plays for the Owen Sound
Attack.
According to some, the excitement swirling
around Big Snake has taken a life of its own.
Big Snake plied his trade for the WHL
Portland Winter Hawks squad last year. He was a free agent
pickup, and has done quite well in the OHL.
Through his first 13 games, Big Snake has
seven goals, 12 points and 45 penalty minutes. He's a tough
customer, who isn't afraid to drop the gloves.
London Knights left winger Dylan Hunter was
named OHL Player of the Week. Hunter recorded one goal and
seven points in two wins last week. Hunter, and the rest of the
Knights powerhouse squad will be in Sudbury Sunday night.
It seems the Knights now have bonafide
competition in the Western Conference. The Kitchener Rangers
are on a major roll. The Rangers are unbeaten in their last 11
games, and with the recent addition of veteran goalie Dan
Turple, they are a force to be reckoned with.
That's all for this week fans. Enjoy the games.
