Duffers will bogey their way through the Timberwolf Golf Course June 14 in this year's Mayor's Mulligan.

Businesses and individuals will get to play some golf, network and donate to two charities in the fourth annual event.

"(Former Mayor) Dave (Courtemanche) did a great thing and it was so successful," Mayor John Rodriguez said. "I want to keep it going. It brings people together that want to make a contribution...why not have some fun too?"

Last year the event raised $27,000. So far, it has raised just under $100,000 since it began in 2004.

The news was unveiled at a conference at Timberwolf.  The current mayor will kick off the event and host the evening dinner.

A total of 144 players in 36 four-player teams will donate $1000 each for a round of golf.  Each hole is sponsored by a Sudbury area business for $350. Twenty-seven teams are set to play at this point.

"I hope it's going to be a wonderful, sunny day and I hope everyone will have a good time," Rodriguez said.

This year, CVRD Inco will sponsor the event.

"We think it's incumbent on us (CVRD Inco) to give back to the community," Cory McPhee, manager of external relations at CVRD Inco said.  "I'm a duffer, but I had a wonderful time last year.

"It's even more fun when you can give to a cause."

All proceeds will go towards the United Way/Centraide Sudbury & District and the Sudbury Community Foundation.

"It's a way for us to network with businesses," Michael Cullen, campaign director of the event for the United Way said.  "It's  a way to drum up support in the community."

The money will be split between the two charities and Cullen expects the event to draw in more than $30,000 this year.

More information about the event is available online at www.mayorsmulligan.com .

"It's one of those events where people can get out and golf with no guilt," said Floyd Laughren, the event's campaign chair. "People can get out and support two great causes and it's fun."
