The Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves defeated the Nickel City Sons 4-1 in "AAA" hockey action at Countryside Arena Wednesday evening.
With goals scored by Justin Lariviere, Kyle Lekun, Gabriel Rodrigues and Kyllian Kirkwoood, the Nickel Capital Wolves remain in second place in the GNML standings over the Nickel City Sons third place standings.
"Big win for us," said Albert Corradini, the Nickel Capital Wolves general manager.
"Slowly we're starting to play the style we think we're going to have to play to be successful."
Corradini said it's always tough when you have a bunch of new players on the team but he's quite pleased with where they're headed.
The Nickel Capital Wolves are three points ahead of the Nickel City Sons in the standings and have won all four games in which the two teams have faced off against each other.
Corradini said the Sons have always given them a tough game.
"There's parity in the league this year. It really seems that on any given day, any team can beat any other team...that makes for better hockey," he said.
The two teams will have a rematch on Dec. 27 in Chelmsford before the Nickel Capital Wolves host the North Bay Trappers on Dec. 28.
Prior to the puck dropping against the Trappers, the Nickel Capital Wolves will welcome home last years' Telus Cup winners with an official banner raising and ring presentation. Game time is 2:50 p.m.
