Novice A Nickel Centre Flyers win championship

The Nickel Centre Flyers Novice A team defeated the Walden Devils 3-1 at the Azilda Arena Sunday afternoon, taking home the championship trophy in the Sudbury Silver Stick Regional Hockey Tournament.

Sudbury Video - Nickel Centre Flyers win Silver Stick The Silver Stick Hockey Tournament is in its 39th year and catered to 90 teams over the weekend at arenas across the city.

The tournament is one of 41 regional hockey tournaments across North America that are played from Nov. 15 to Dec. 31.

Winning teams advance to the North American Finals which are being held in St. Clair Shores and Port Huron, Michigan, and Sarnia and Newmarket, Ontario depending on the level of hockey.

view more photos Also taking away championship trophies this year were the Minor Atom A Valley East Rebels, Minor Atom AA Copper Cliff Redmen, Major Atom A Valley East Rebels, Minor Peewee A Waldon Red Devils, Major Peewee A Valley East Rebels, Major Peewee AA Copper Cliff Redmen and the Minor Bantam A Valley East Rebels.
