Offensive trio goes alpha in OHL

Hey fans, it's time for another heap of OHL news and stats. Let's start with the Sudbury Wolves. One thing no team can take away from the Wolves right now is the fact they feature one of the best trios of offensive defencemen in the entire league.

Hey fans, it's time for another heap of OHL news and stats. Let's start with the Sudbury Wolves.

One thing no team can take away from the Wolves right now is the fact they feature one of the best trios of offensive defencemen in the entire league.

With Marc Staal, Jonathan D'Aversa and Nicholas Tuzzolino leading the charge, the Wolves blueline has become a unit to fear, especially on the power play.

The trio of Staal (40 points), D'Aversa (38 points) and Tuzzolino (34 points) have put up a total of 112 points, including 23 goals.

The Barrie trio of Andrew Marshall (58 points), David Pszenyczny (45 points) and Nick Plastino (15 points) have a slight edge and lead the OHL with a total of 118 points.

As the stretch run winds down, I think the Sudbury trio will over take the Barrie group since Tuzzolino is a much better offensive defenceman than Plastino.

Not to be out done are Owen Sound's group of Bobby Sanguinetti, Andrej Sekera and Theo Peckham, who have combined for 104 points.

Toronto's Ryan Wilson, Scott Lehman and Rob Kwiet are also due some respect with a combined 97 points so far.

London's Rob Schremp is the OHL Player of the Week...again. Schremp fired in five goals and 10 points in three wins last week. Schremp has now manufactured a 16-game point streak, which has seen him tally 13 goals and 40 points. Overall, Schremp, 19, leads the OHL with 43 goals and 113 points in just 41 games.

Schremp has been the OHL Player of the Week twice already this season, back on Jan. 16, 2006 and Oct. 17, 2005.

The OHL has released a special commemorative set of hockey cards for the 2006 OHL Bell All-Star Cup.

The 40-card set features the 40 players named to the all-star rosters, including all eight members of Canada's gold medal-winning national junior team. The set also includes Wolves' players Pouliot, Staal, and D'Aversa.

The $10 sets can be purchased at ontariohockeyleague.com

One of the best trades made at the deadline was Windsor picking up power forward Bryan Bickell from Ottawa for a second round pick and Brett Liscomb.

Bickell has been on fire since joining the Spitfires, scoring eight goals and 15 points in 10 games. In that span, Windsor has gone 6-2-1-1 to become a
playoff contender.
