From June 2-4, the community of Valley East
will host the "A" boys' OFSAA soccer championships. The
draw will feature a total of 16 teams. Three of these teams are
from Northern Ontario.
"This is the first time Valley East will be
hosting a provincial high school championship," said OFSAA
convener Gilbert Briscoe, in a press release.
"It is also the first year there will only be
single 'A' schools competing for the championship. In
the past, schools of 'A' and 'AA'
classifications have competed together."
Four fields spread out across three sites
will be used to facilitate the 16-team draw.
Confederation Secondary School, E.S.C.
L'Horizon and the Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre will
feature a full slate of games on June 2 and 3, with semi-finals
slated for Confederation and Horizon on the morning of June
4.
Confederation will then host the bronze and
gold medal games in the afternoon of June 4.
Locally, a blanket of snow greeted
competitors as the SDSSAA boys' "A" soccer league
opened earlier this week. In the Sudbury district alone, there
are eight teams vying for the opportunity to participate in the
OFSAA event.
