More than half of all Sudbury and area athletes competing at the upcoming 2018 Ontario Summer Games in London will do so at either the basketball (Fanshawe College) or volleyball (Western University) venues.

A total of 26 teenagers from these parts will strut their stuff on the courts, the largest group of which comprise a majority of the roster of the Team North boys basketball crew that will face Huron, Capital, Central East North and Central West in Pool "A" play beginning Friday at noon.

No less than eight young lads have travelled south, with Liam Conlin, Richie Daley, Pascal Dumont, Charlie Hennessy, Eric Sauvé, Dax Mazzuchin, Ethan Scott and Abdallah Koulbou all in the fold.

The girls b-ball contingent are close behind with seven locals (Maike Purdoh, Gabrielle Tiango, Ali Bertrim, Elaina Allen, Elliot Tissot van Patot, Charlotte Church and Sophie Moore), with Josh Gascon, Miguel Leclair, Mathieu Lemieux, Noah Perreault and Noah Squires all carrying boys volleyball hopes for the north in these Games.

Local coaches Sheldon Root and Heather Hastie have selected one half of their girls volleyball Region 2 roster from the local ranks in the form of Emma Coutu, Haven Fournier, Brianne Perreault, Alexia Lemay-Evans, Grace Perrier and Rory Frantz.

There will be Sudbury representation in outdoor volleyball as well as coach Denny Chicoine is working with Josée Beauchamp, Sydney Nicholls and others for the beach volleyball playdowns.

The one remaining large scale infusion of Nickel City athleticism comes on the diamond as Scooter Rienguette, Cole McPhee, Cole Goudreau, Dylan Anctil, Gavin Roy, Braedan Pakkala, Yanick Loiselle, Anthony Signorile and Jacob Larivière are all members of the Team North baseball degelation.
