Laurentian Voyageurs' goalkeeper Scott Cliff, midfielder Anthony Tagliafierro, and defenders Andrew Posteraro and Jean-Pierre Sauvé were honoured on Thursday when the OUA announced major award winners and all-stars.

Cliff was named Most Valuable Player in the East division and first team all-star along with Tagliafierro, while Posteraro and Sauvé took home second team all-star honours.

Cliff, a native of Sudbury, played in his first season with the blue and gold following a year as a red-shirt after he transferred from Oakland City University in Indiana.

Cliff led the Voyageurs to a third place finish in the OUA East, and beat the Queen's Gaels in the first round of the playoffs, before falling 2-1 to the sixth ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues.

Cliff posted six regular season shut-outs and one in the post-season en route to his 6-3-3 record. Cliff must now make a decision as to whether to return and defend his MVP award as he has one year of eligibility left.

Tagliafierro, also a native of Sudbury, played out his fifth year in style as he led the Voyageurs in the midfield after making the transition from defender and was named a first team all-star.

The captain of the Voyageurs for the 2008 season was a rock from the penalty spot, as he was the unanimous choice on penalty kicks; he also set up the majority of set plays as he took most free kicks. Tagilafierro found the back of the net twice on the year, earning his second OUA all-star award.

Posteraro, a Sault Ste. Marie native finished his third year with the Voyageurs by being named a second-team all-star. He was a rock in the defensive end for the Voyageurs as they boasted a superb turnaround from a year ago.

Posteraro was widely known as one of the fastest players in the CIS, with the ability to chase down opponents all over the pitch. Playing alongside teammate Sauvé opposing strikers feared entering into Laurentian territory.

Sauvé, a native of Pembroke, Ontario, and Posteraro won more balls than not and were an integral part of goalkeeper Cliff picking up the Most Valuable Player award.

Sauvé netted the first goal in his five year Laurentian career in Kingston, Ontario against Royal Military College, and followed it up with a second tally and game winner in North Bay, Ontario against the Nipissing Lakers.

Posteraro earns his first all-star award, while Sauvé is an OUA second-team all-star for the second straight year.

The Voyageurs will train during the offseason and cheer on their fellow student-athletes as Laurentian's basketball, swimming, skiing and curling teams will take centre stage as the mercury drops in Sudbury.
