The Sudbury Panhellenic U21 women's soccer team is on the road again this weekend in a fight to climb back up the ranks of the Ontario Women's Soccer League.

The team, currently in fourth place with six wins and three losses, will take on the Ajax Titans Saturday (July 4) at 2 p.m. at Centennial Park in Ajax. The Titans are currently in sixth with four wins and five losses.

Head coach Giuseppe Politi said his team was middle of the pack in terms of league standing last year. They finished fourth overall with a berth in the Ontario Cup finals.

He has high goals for his team again this year, with plans to return to the Ontario Cup finals and to finish in the top four in the league.

“The competition is much stiffer this year as some strong teams have graduated out of the Ontario Youth Soccer League (OYSL) into the OWSL,” he said.

The ladies will return to their home pitch on July 5 for an Ontario Cup match, as they take on the Richmond Hill Raiders at 3 p.m. at Cambrian College. The Raiders are holding the second place position, only one point ahead of the Sudbury team.

“This is a rematch of the final last year, which we lost 1-0 in overtime,” Politi said.
