Players on move as OHL trade deadline passes

Hey OHL fans! It's time for another heap of news, happenings and stats. Let's start with some award winners. The OHL Player of the Week is Brampton's Daren Machesney. The 19-year-old goalie was unreal last week, posting a 2-0 record and a sharp 0.50 goals-against-average (GAA) and a sizzling .982 save percentage.

Machesney started the week by stopping 26 shots in a 5-1 win over Guelph, and then thwarted 29 shots in a 1-0 win over Sudbury.

The Washington Capitals fifth-round draft choice has won four straight games, and is 15-12-0-1, with a 3.15 GAA and a .904 save percentage, this season.

December award winners were recently announced and it was more good news for Brampton as their top player, Wojtek Wolski, was named OHL Player of the Month for December.

Wolski leads all OHL scorers in the month with eight goals and 25 points in just 12 games.

Overall, Wolski has 16 goals and 47 points in 27 games.

The OHL Rookie of the Month was Oshawa's John Tavares. The slick 15-year-old led all rookies with seven goals and 14 points in nine games. Tavares leads all rookies in goal scoring with 25 in 37 games. He's second in rookie league scoring with 42 points in 37 games. London's Sergei Kostitsyn, 19,
leads all rookies in overall scoring with 50 points in 34 games.

Sudbury Wolves rookies, Matt Dias (27 points) and Anton Hedman (26 points), are eighth and ninth respectively in rookie scoring.

The Top Defenceman was Kitchener's Matt Lashoff. The 19-year-old defender pumped in one goal and 11 points in seven games in December, along with a solid plus/minus rating of +9.

The Top Goalie was Guelph's Ryan MacDonald, who went 5-3-0-0 with a crisp 1.82 GAA and a .930 save percentage. He also posted two shut outs.
The OHL trade deadline passed on Tuesday at 6 pm. As of Northern Life's press deadline, here are some of the more significant moves made:

- Barrie beefed up by acquiring defenceman David Pszenyczny, Jordan Grant and Jeremy Whelan from Mississauga for Nathan Martine and Brett Oliphant.

- Ottawa shipped six-foot-four forward Bryan Bickell to Windsor for Brett Liscomb and a second-round draft pick.

- Belleville sent Ryan Berard and a draft pick to Saginaw for Steve Whitely and a draft pick.

- Sudbury's J.F. Houle was traded from Brampton to Kingston for a fourth-round pick.
