St. Patrick's Day proved to favour the Abitibi Eskimos as the defending champion Sudbury Kal Tire Jr. Wolves season has come to an end.

The Wolves dropped a 4-1 decision to the Abitibi Eskimos in Iroquois Falls Tuesday night. The win gives the Eskimos a 4-1 series victory over the defending NOJHL champions and advances them to the Eastern Conference Finals against the North Bay Skyhawks.

After a 4.5 hour bus ride up North, the Jr. Wolves had to wait an extra 45 minutes for a hole in the ice to be repaired due to a leaky roof at the Iroquois Falls arena. The delay helped the hometown Eskimos jump-out to a 3-0 first period lead over the road-weary Wolves.

After a scoreless second period, Jeff Verreault scored on the power play for the Jr. Wolves early in the third period, but the Eskies added the clincher with just under 10 minutes to play in the final period.

The Jr. Wolves once again received the brunt of the penalties for the fifth game in the row. Abitibi once again took advantage of the extra  manpower advantages -- which was a common theme throughout the five game series.

Wolves Captain Jordan Cheechoo concluded an outstanding Junior Hockey career with the Jr. Wolves. The Jr. Wolves captain played the entire series with a seperated shoulder and will now undergo surgery to repair his damaged shoulder.

The Jr. Wolves would like to thank all of their fans and sponsors for supporting the team this season. The Jr. Wolves would like to thank the staff at the Garson Arena for their outstanding assistance in providing the Jr. Wolves with a temporary home  for the 2008-09 season.
