Sudbury Wolves sniper Ben Pouliot has been
named the OHL Rookie of the Year.
Pouliot, 18, dazzled fans across arenas this
past season with his blistering, accurate shot, and his shifty,
smooth skating style.
Pouliot finished the regular with 29 goals
and 38 assists for 67 points in 67 games.
Pouliot lead all OHL rookies in
scoring.
Pouliot was also a force in the playoffs, as
the Wolves made a charge into the second round for the first
time since the 2000-01 season.
Pouliot recorded six goals and 14 points in
12 playoff games, to lead the Wolves in playoff scoring.
He also scored two game-winning goals,
including the series-deciding overtime goal against Brampton in
the first round of the playoffs.
Pouliot is the top rated OHL prospect for the
next NHL draft.
In other Wolves news, the organization dished
out it's annual team awards earlier this week, with forward
Rafal Martynowski copping numerous awards, including Team
MVP.
Martynowski lead the Wolves in scoring this
season, registering 31 goals and 67 points in 68 games.
Martynowski also won the Most Underrated
Player and Molson Cup Awards.
Jonathan D'Aversa was named Playoff MVP,
after scoring four goals and 10 points in 12 playoff
games.
Pouliot was named Top Rookie, defenceman Adam
McQuaid was named Most Improved Player, defenceman Ryan
Hastings earned the Community Service Award, forward Bobby
Chaumont was named Most Popular Player, Marc Staal was named
Top Defenceman, Nick Foligno grabbed the Scholastic Award,
goalie Kevin Beech won the Fan Club Most Popular Player, and
forward Kevin baker was named the Most Sportsmanlike Player of
the Year.
